I took music so seriously in my twenties that it almost destroyed the love & joy I felt playing music as a child.

My need and obsession for success as a musician killed all of the fun and in the process harmed my physical, emotional and mental health.

We deserve and can achieve success without harming ourselves.

I adored singing as a child. I remember rolling around in the grass with my dog Mack, singing lullabies to him. I sang because its what we humans were designed to do. Just like how birds sing. Just like our ancestors have always sung. It hasn’t been until recent history have we created this concept of singers and non singers within our culture.

Do you think that affected my singing? Hell yes it did!

I learned from a very young age that it was not safe to speak my truth or to speak up for myself the way my mom learned at a young age and her mother before her going back as far as I couldn’t even fathom. How many of you can relate to this?

Yes you, whoever you are, you are indeed a singer. If you were born with healthy, functioning vocal cords, you were born with the amazing ability to sing, as your ancestors, and your ancestors ancestors before you.

It really is this simple. So often when we want aspects of our lives to change, we hope and we wish, we pray for it, but very often we aren’t willing to change the habits that are keeping us from attaining our goals. It really is this simple, and it is very often the most frustrating part of being human.
